Im guilty of this, however the first place I moved into the owner obviously cared about the place. Quality furnishings in return I gave a fuck. In my current place the boiler breaks all the time, the taps fall off and the furnishings and paint are the cheapest going, guess what, I hardly give care what happens.
Scuff the wall in the decent place "Dammit", scuff the wall in the uncared places "Eh whatever its just another thing"
