Because it's an environmentally friendly method of transit with proven health benefits. Despite this, street design in the UK is incredibly discouraging for people who want to take it up. Therefore, it's a *good* thing if government and councils alter street design to improve safety. Redesigning streets should mean more room for pedestrians and public transport, as well as cyclists. The world isn't always a zero-sum game.

I don't know why anyone is still engaging with you - your original repy (about cyclists running red lights) has no relevance to this thread or u/Saltire_Blue 's response, highlighting how positive an experience it is to cycle safely in the streets currently.
