Yupppp, I'm a waitress and I understand that people like making conversation. But if you ask me where I'm from and I answer well I'm originally from London but I stay in Anniesland that really should be the end of the questions. But alot of tourists and English business men will either probe with one of the following questions, "where are you really from?" "Where are your parents from?" "But you have different hair/skin complexion? (While they touch either my hair or skin)"... sometimes people get creative and say "Oh I'm a linguist and was wondering what is your mother tongue?"

I'm like mate my accent is a north London accent, a tiny bit influenced by a west Scottish accent, I literally don't speak any other language. If you really must know my family migrated from Portugal 2 generations ago. And people still aren't happy with that as Portugal is a "white" country. Then I usually have to end it with a history lesson on colonisation and what African countries Portugal used to own.
