| Comment | While the points made by others are valid in that the *financial* risk in this situation lies with him, not you, there are two things I'd be concerned about:
1. Safety: does the place have valid gas and electrical safety certificates? Does he have building insurance? Have appliances been tested and are there working smoke/CO alarms? All these are things that would have to be done to be a registered landlord.
2. If the place isn't registered, and the council finds out, and it's not up to the above safety requirements, you could be out on your arse sharpish.
Given the risks/fines involved, I'd want to know what his reason is for not registering. |
