It's just habit for many.

I had to step off the pavement on Elderslie St the other day - no biggie, since there was no cars on the road. Or bikes on the double cycle lane that the cyclist chose not to use.

Like the ongoing gripes with inconsiderate joggers/pedestrians/other making distancing difficult (even dangerous), there is always a minority. However, if you leave your house with no intention of using the part of the road/pavement designated for you, you are planning on being inconsiderate and dangerous.

By all means continue to pressure the council into improving cycling routes, but in the meantime either take quieter roads or don't cycle.
