So I live round the corner and this would mean that many of my car journeys would be inconvenienced if it was shut permanently. However I also visit the park at least once a day with my kids and it has been fucking AMAZING not to be constantly worrying about whether they're going to run out between some parked cars and get run over by one of the many roasters who think that a straight stretch of road is the perfect place to accelerate like a prick. At the end of the day it's a big fuck off road running through the middle of one of the city's centrepiece parks and if the position was reversed there's no fucking way we'd be considering opening up a busy route through a park to shave a few minutes off journey times. Also there are no less than 4 subway stops (1 of which has a massive car park) and an overground station all within half a mile.

Keep the bottom open for the museum and add some disabled parking bays there and at the other end for access. Keep a route open for emergency vehicles and, if you want to compromise, let taxis use it with a 10mph speed limit.

The main downside I can see is increased traffic on university avenue but tbh the entire west end needs a rethink in traffic management (esp finneston/argyle st area) and this seems like the ideal time to do something about it.
