There are also a lot of free mortgage advisors who take the commission from the mortgage provider as payment rather than charging you.
If you take a life insurance policy with the property the advisor can get a double dose of commission so they don't have to pass on costs.

I used London and Country, found through a comparison website (I forget which), to remortgage. Took a little longer than the face to face I used for the initial purchase, but they took only the commission as fees and saved me money overall.
