I would go for Glasgow. It is a traditional university with a large community of humanities scholars. Strathclyde is really more of a technological university and has cut/reduced many of its humanities offerings over the last decade in order to focus on STEM, business and law. I did my MSc there, and it was a fantastic course, but it was very much aimed at employability and professional practice.

The 'wanting students to fail' one is a new one, and you probably won't get it at MLitt level, as you are paying cold hard cash. At undergrad they expect a certain level of rigour, and it's your responsibility to learn and apply that. Not everyone is going to get a 1st: I think about 12-15% of my honours class got a 1st.

I did my undergrad at Glasgow and the support issue is one I occasionally heard complaints about, but I think it depends on the person. There was a lot of emphasis on academic rigour and independent learning: you're at uni and should be able to learn (and learn how to learn) yourself. That said, whenever I asked a lecturer about something, they were always more than willing to help and offer advice. Every undergrad has an advisor of studies too, and they are good resources if you take the time to meet them.
