From a comment I've previously made:

CodeClan is awful. Had a terrible experience with them after being told how amazing the course was.

They say it's perfect for beginners, but you actually have to know how to code before you begin. They make you do a few Codecademy courses before you start and if you don't understand them 100% by the time the cohort starts, then you're going to struggle.

As advertised, the pace is fast, but if you struggle even at one point, you will fall behind. The pace is ruthless and if you're not a coding whiz like several wunderkinds in my cohort were, you'll be left behind. The course is catered towards the best in the class, not people like myself and another individual who struggled to grasp certain concepts due to the uninspiring lectures in a noisy classroom taught by lecturers who seemed to get easily frustrated.

I was obviously the person in the class who struggled the most with understanding things and as a result I was in the building most of the week, making use of the lecturers, facilities and extra lessons to try and get my head around Ruby - which was taught instead of Python - while most others were enjoying their weekend after blasting through the weekend's homework in half an hour, yet I was the one who's commitment was questioned when I handed in a piece of coursework I'd slaved all weekend over only to be told it was subpar.

I was put on 'level 1' support, which was basically 'read this free e-book on Ruby for children on top of all your other coursework', before I'd be dropped to another level, which was basically 'you're getting kicked off the course'.

The stress of the course had me teetering on a nervous breakdown and realising it was bad for my health, I decided to pack it in halfway through. I asked for a refund for the weeks I wasn't doing and was told I wasn't getting one and despite the fact I was told they'd keep in touch about future courses and opportunities, they never did.

While a good idea in theory, CodeClan in practice is a scheme to pump barely competent junior developers into the workplace for a quick buck. I keep in touch with some of my classmates and they've told me how the stuff they learned wasn't particularly relevant to what they're doing now. Another friend said they had a CodeClan graduate who was pretty useless at the job they were hired for.

Apparently CC have their own job boards as well, but it's pretty sparse and usually only has jobs from call centres looking for people to work on the phones.

It's a great skill to have, but I had such a terrible experience at CodeClan that I would be happy to never look at another line of code again.

It might have changed since I was there - late 2017 - and it might be better than it was, but I had such an awful experience I simply can't recommend it.
