Loads of abuse for being of Pakistani origin. Quite blatant growing up.
Less obvious racism today as I’ve moved into middle class. More subtle but definitely there. There is a general discomfort that I always need to overcome when meeting new people socially, at work, etc that I don’t see others having to do.
I accept promotions are less frequent for no obvious reason and see the glass as being half full for getting on well in life.
I travel a lot with work, in UK and worldwide. I always, always, have to explain why I have a Scottish accent but don’t look ‘Scottish’. That is very tiresome indeed. |
