| Comment | I’m a (mixed race) east asian girl who grew up just south of Glasgow. There are a few times where I experienced pretty brutal racism. I was on the last train from Glasgow to motherwell when I was 16 and an older drunk couple began harassing me. They were telling me they were going to insert eels into my orifices, saying very abusive things and threatening to fight me. It was traumatising, I was a child.
But I’d say the more constant and casual racism is what gets me more. When the couple were racially harassing me it was the last train home on new years eve - it was packed. Not one of the many adult men stood up for me, they all just looked on.
Twice people have shouted ‘corona’ at me out their cars. When I worked in a shop, more than one old man came in just to ask me what country I was from and then didn’t even buy anything. Another time, a guy told my boyfriend he was also thinking of ‘getting an asian bird’ as if we were fashion accessories. ‘Small’ racist things happen to me maybe every other week.
