I feel like "corruption" may have been a poor choice of words. I didnt mean "corrupt" in the embezzlement sense, more so in the irredeemable force of state oppression sense. The police force as an institution exists merely as an expression of state power over the people. Each of the expected functions of a police force is either entirely or partially unnecessary, or could be fulfilled by other entities. A telling point of notice is that the first "police force" as we would understand it was the Irish Constabulary, which while purporting to serve as a bastion of law and order "and indeed, providing both to an extent) its true purpose was to quell an uprising. Then, and now, the police provide a "service" to the people (that could be and has been fully fulfilled by people ran endeavours in the past and present) while in truth merely cementing the centralisation of power within our society. The police is an expression of violence, a force that the police and military monopolise for sole "legitimate" use *by* the state, against those it seeks to subjugate and keep in line. If you want to see the worst examples of what the police can become, you can look to what has been happening as of late across the pond. The US police force is not an anomaly. It is the inevitable result of what happens when the checks, balances and limits required to keep a police force in line are allowed to erode. It has to be considered whether or not the police are worth it in the end, if they must be constantly struggled against merely to stop them from turning on the people in spectacular fashion.
