Fair enough unionists might not necessarily be loyalists (although you'd have a hard time arguing that point in Glasgow) but unionism and british nationalism are near enough the same thing.

70% of Scottish protestants voted no against independence. There are loads of Scottish identity opinion surveys that will show how Scottish protestants view their nationality (it's British if you couldn't have guessed). Regardless of what it may mean to you the connotations are hard to ignore and the lines are blurring more than ever imo.
