It's kind of a hard one to explain, it's no just yer standard "skinny jeans are gay and heavy metal is for freaks" that you'll get from mouthbreathers pretty much anywhere in the world, it's just so much more than that.
Obviously I can't speak for other places but I grew up in a fairly run down scheme in the southside and it's just as if everyone's too frightened to do anything out of the ordinary in case it's considered weird.
Folk refuse to express themselves or pursue their interests because their peers will call them a "gimp" or witever other negative adjective they can muster at the time.
Finish work, come hame, eat a microwave meal, watch the telly, bed. Pub/park/fitba at the weekend. Rinse, repeat.
