| Comment | Weirdly, GPs are not obligated to write prescriptions for any purpose. If they feel uncomfortable with either the use of or the monitoring required for medications, they are permitted to refuse. The GP or CCG can also refuse based on the cost of medication.
Can't find the link right now but I remember reading about a case where a cancer clinic passed a prescription request to a GP and they refused to sign off on it. Patient did get their treatment eventually but the oncology consultant had to sign off a couple of prescriptions before they were able to get another GP. |
