Theres good people but theyre really not equipped to deal with it. My friend tried to od last year. I called the ambulance who managed to get there in time to get her to hospital, where they stabilised her. At about 4am, two guys came in to chat to her about her mental health for about 20 minutes and then at 6am she got discharged with absolutely no plan of continuing support or indication of what services she had available to her. It was literally good luck, hope we don't see you again.

After a bit of a rest we went her gp who eventually refered her to the mental health crisis team at stobhill after a frankly unnecessary amount of persuasion. While lovely, in her particular case the best they could do was arrange a schedule of checking on her over the phone regularly for the next few weeks.

We set up a group of friends to take shifts living with her for a month because in her own words she was scared to be left on her own because of where her thoughts went without someone to distract her. But that's just not always possible for people in these kinda situations, who perhaps don't have a support network. I really dread to think how many people have been lost because these services don't have the resources they need to adequately support people.
