If it's not under enough of a structure to count as a building/enclosure, it's unenforceable regardless of what signs are put up. One wall and a big of an overhand from the roof isn't enough, it has to be 3 walls or 2 walls + roof.

The only time I've seen anyone try and enforce the smoke-free thing was at the Beatson. Despite the positive pressure airflow keeping the smoke out, some wee busybody receptionist was hassling people. One of the more mobile elderly patients just blew smoke at her and told her to piss off.
