Comment | Giving the kids a 1980s childhood.
Rather than being rushed from breakfast club to school, to after school clubs and classes, then homework and bed, we are spending hours falling out of trees, rolling down hills, messing around in fields and going for walks along dis-used railways. If we see a beaten path, we follow it - we've discovered fishermen's sandy beaches on the banks of the Clyde, an entire abandoned farm down a disused road, seen deer, foxes, rabbits, swans, watched the cygnet hatch and grow, been surrounded by bees and butterflies gallore (before the council started cutting the grass back again and killing the wildflowers, boo). I hope they remember it as a long hot summer of constant walks, bike rides and exploring, then back home for ice creams on the deck. |
