Public consumption of alcohol is already illegal.

Not looking too closely at pubs selling pints "to take home" benefits pubs and the people who fancy drinking a pint in the park rather than 4 cans, while hurting noone. I'll certainly still be drinking in public regardless, same as everyone else I know. Anyone causing bother drinking in public was pretty unlikely to be getting drunk one plastic pint at a time when 8 cans is easier, more convenient and cheaper.

Banning takeaway pints doesn't really solve any problem, or benefit anyone, so why do it? I'd suggest it's an easy thing to do to be *seen* to be doing something about the problem boozing that's making headlines - even though that problem boozing is almost certainly young team with carryouts.
