I moved from Manchester to Glasgow about 4 years ago, never looked back. Glasgow and Manchester are really similar cities, sometimes I forget which one I'm in. The whole area has very similar vibes, might be because they have such similar histories. West End is the posh bit, East End is a bit more down to earth. Merchant City is like the Northern Quarter. Suburbs around the city are as varied as Manchester's are, you're guaranteed to find a place to live that suits you if you're prepared to look for it.

Personally I lived in Finnieston in the West End for the first couple of years with a couple of roommates (it's a student area so lots of flatshares going), it's in walking distance of the city centre and the west end so it's a good place to explore Glasgow from. After that I ended up moving out to Rutherglen with my girlfriend cause we could get a house for less than a Finnieston flat and it's got good commuting links to Glasgow.
