I'm a teacher so I'm not back at work until August (2 weeks earlier than usual is the current plan as kids have been at home for fecking ages already). Honestly I'm looking forward to being back. I have been more productive in that developing materials has been easier - my internet connection is better than at work, I've fewer distractions and so on. However, the effectiveness of teaching remotely definitely isn't so good, and engagement's not been what you'd hope for.

However, my commute is only a 5 minute walk...

On my old timetable I was "free" all of Friday afternoon, but wasn't allowed to head home as I had "other duties" which *could* have popped up (essentially registering a class if the school burst into flames), even though someone else could have covered them. I'm hoping that the last few months will encourage the Powers That Be to let us work from home more often when we're not required to be in front of a class.

Agree with OP, though, about encouraging home work where it's appropriate. As a nation / world we've been going on about how staff could work from home but very, very few companies have made the effort to make it happen. I do know of some who've got more staff than they can accommodate in their offices (deliberately), and have staff in on shifts or when being in the building is required. I know of others who share premises with other companies, with desks being hotswap and a timetable for occupancy being used. Keeps costs and travel down.

It's feasible for a lot of jobs. Maybe, *maybe* this will be one positive to come from recent events.
