I’ve been a remote worker for 18 months and pre-pandemic I loved it. Things got tough when I had to juggle childcare with work, nursery closed and a rowdy three-year-old made for some interesting Teams meetings! I was eventually laid off during lockdown and didn’t speak to many people for a month or so. This week I’ve been out and about and having adult conversations in shops, with friends etc and although I didn’t recognise that I was feeling low, my mood has improved immeasurably. I only mention all this to make the point that as much as you may think you’re OK with working at home, human contact is so, so important and if I’m given the choice when I go back to work, I’ll want to spend at least half of my week in the office and interacting with the rest of the world. Getting up early and commuting is crap, but so isolation.
