The general attitude towards taking care of the city needs to be improved. Yes the council needs to improve cleaning services and bin collections, but we as residents need to take more pride in keeping it clean. Some cities I’ve visited abroad have people constantly on the road emptying bins and scrubbing the streets, even at night. But the rest of the community does their wee bit too. All the shop owners clean their shopfront and also scrub away both at morning and night. Never ever saw their bins or rubbish dumped at the shopfront. I noticed fewer bins in these cities yet hardly any litter, so the people must be taking extra care.

Here, you tell someone who’s littered to throw their rubbish in the bin and they’ll yell, swear, fight or even threaten to hurt you. There’s this mindset of “I don’t care” or “someone else will pick it up”.
