Comment | There is a problem too in that (in my experience) a lot of the few people who leave don't come back, when if they did it would contribute something new to developing the culture.
I compare it to here in Sweden where it's pretty much standard now for a lot of young people to go and live a year or two in London, Barcelona, maybe the states. But more often than not people move back, and one of the consequences is that Swedish society has become a lot more internationally minded in the big cities at least, way more exciting new businesses etc than there were 15 years ago or so.
Scotland would do well from encouraging people to try life elsewhere but also to come back and bring something new as a result. |
