| Comment | To be fair to the garage just because something should fail an MOT and it hasn’t in the past doesn’t make it ok. Just means your MOT guy hasn’t noticed it yet.
Also I’d be curious to see what they tried to up sell you, because if it’s things like a carbon clean of your engine or an air con service then it’s probably bullshit (just them trying to make money), but if it’s actual issues like the one you gave as an example then fair enough to them. If they missed an issue and you go out and it breaks you could bring legal action against them, so obviously they’re going to bring up every problem to you when you collect the car, and then it’s up to you to decide whether it needs fixed or not. It also stops the whole “ever since you did x on my car y has started happening”.
I’m also not defending the garage, I’ve never been or worked there, but I’ve worked as a mechanic for a while now and can tell you sometimes people jump to thinking they’re being ripped off when in reality the mechanic is actually just doing their job properly and their car is a bit of a POS. |
