Born in 85 was brought up in the Gorbals. Everything seemed normal at the time as a child you don't really recognise poverty, drug abuse, violence if you're exposed to it everyday.

I lived in high-rise flats the heroin epidemic in the 90s was wild my dad was an addict everyone had someone in their family effected by heroin.

There was only one or 2 kids in my group who's parents were still together.

Knife crime and gangs were much worse than today I've personally lost 7 friends to murder and a few more are murderers themselves.

The police barred gorbals youths from entering the city centre in 1999 at the weekend.

Theft and drug use amongst my peers started as early as 12/13. Hash alcohol ecstasy speed valium, but we all knew the perils of heroin and none of us would touch it that was frowned upon.

Looking back now it was fucking crazy, i was relatively lucky I was fairly intelligent enjoyed reading (had to keep that a secret) and never done jail time but when I think of all the crazy shit I done before I was even a teenager it's wild.

I think the majority of schemes were the same, castlemilk, Govan bridgeton etc were all mental too.

So to surmise glasgow in the 80/90s was a very different place to today.

Having said all that I enjoyed my youth and doubt I'd change much apart from maybe better education.
