I grew up in suburban Glasgow but I remember being in Glasgow for the Flower Festival... It was a bit like the City Centre during the Commonwealth Games. Everything was spruced up, there were remarkably few junkies or homeless (where did they go during the games by the way? its a mystery.) and it had a bit of a holiday atmosphere to it.

I can remember being a kid in the early 90s and being taken shopping in town before Buchanan st was fully pedestrianised. It was a no-mans land about halfway up the street.
Absolutely loved getting to go to the Warner Brothers store (which I imagine must be part of Frasers now) but the streets always felt really busy and I was terrified of getting lost.

We weren't a rich family but I felt rich growing up in the burbs. We had lots of parks, woodland and rivers to arse about in. It wasn't until I was much older that I realised how relatively low on the economic ladder we were.
