This. All of this.

Also to add - John Menzies, not just a newsagent, also where you bought the best toys, and spectrum games on cassette tapes.

Stretches of the city centre just being plywood walls covering gap sites, coated in posters for bands and upcoming shows.

The fairs/shows coming to derelict bits of ground near you at unspecified times and staying for what felt like weeks.

That week in the 1980s when it snowed so hard the city came to a stop for a week. Sledging every night with half the town, and deep enough that my dad built an igloo in the back garden.

Being a wannabe goff in the late 80s/early 90s but make-up in the big shops only came in "natural" colours, so you'd scour the jumble sales and bargain bins for anything that wasn't red/pink lipstick or nail varnish. Then discovering Eurasia Crafts on Great western road for cheesecloth tops and fringed skirts, oh, heaven smelt of patchouli then!

Wedding scrambles. Pigeon doocots. The yellow panels on the low level walls in Glasgow Central and the wee John Menzies at the top of the stairs to those platforms! Zonecards for travel everywhere, no need for busfare. Strathclyde as a brand - SPT orange bus stops and train stations, SRC jotters at school. Dunkin Donuts at four corners. the Cathouse in the old copper domed Merchants Seaman's house on Brown Street. Alien War in the Arches. Giant open air carpark where the St Enoch centre is now. Virginia Galleries for giant band posters, antiques, Mr Bens, tattoos , used books and anything non-mainstream. Argyle Street Market above River Island for more of the same.
