| Comment | I’ve never lived actually lived beside one but I’m from the North of Ireland and my grandmother lives across the road from one and it seems grand, they even host Irish dancing lessons as part of some cross community project, however this is in a quiet and middle-class ‘mixed village’ where misbehaviour of the kind that often occurs would be heavily frowned upon. On the flip side, in more loyalist areas they are used not only for band practice but social events and there is a strong likelihood of loud noise in marching season, as well as drunken bigots spilling out onto the street.
My girlfriend’s family live beside one in Glasgow and she said a few weeks ago when she was there, a raucous crowd of muppets spilled out front the place and were singing sectarian songs and sieg-heiling (although they’ll probably claim they were doing ‘red hand salutes’ which is the usual excuse), so that’s probably what you can expect. Personally, I would avoid staying anywhere near one. |
