I go to the library (usually pre-covid) every week for leisure. And every week there is a diverse mob of people using the library for all sorts of different things.
Grief counselling, financial counselling, refugees getting help with forms, old folk learning to use computers, students using the space to study, little kids doing book bug or lego stuff.
They're important spaces for actual people.
(If the council was really interested in monetising them in some way I'd suggest putting a coffee shop in them as a form of monetisation. I usually bring one with me but I'd happily pay for one if it contributed to keeping it afloat.) |
