| Comment | I was in a similar position. Contact the homeless number straight away as mentioned by others. When you go, they will ask if youve friends or anyone can help you couch surf. Essentially unless youre sleeping in a bus shelter, you wont get immediate help unless you are female and/or have kids as these are deemed high risk vulnerability, so make it clear you are looking for benches to sleep on tonight.
You will have to stay in a shelter for at least a week. I know people who just showed up to check in each day then went couch surfing for the week because it was safer than a homeless shelter in Paisley.
Once you've been in the shelter at least a week, they will place you in emergency housing. Make sure you get your name on the council housing list asap too as you are likely to go on the list a lot higher than someone living at home or renting.
Of course it does largely depend on who you speak to but the above was my personal experience. If you have any money spare at all, it might be worth looking for super cheap hotel or hostel deals online if you can find anywhere open.
