There are always risks with swimming - I wouldn't have done that alone, didn't go beyond my depth and I did some research on it in advance. Open swimming has become really popular since lockdown for obvious reasons but it isn't ever going to be 100% safe. I'm just a beginner, but there is a lot of great information out there and it's important to read it.
