If you fancy a jaunt, the NCR 75 runs from Helensburgh all the way through Glasgow and on to Edinburgh via Bathgate and Livingston.

Once you pick up the cycle path at Plains (back end of Airdrie) you cycle alongside the railway line basically until you get to Livi. And if you can’t be bothered going the whole way to Edinburgh it’s very easy to jump on the train at Caldercruix, Blackridge, Armadale and Bathgate and head back to Glasgow.

The route does become quite tough between West Calder and the outskirts of Edinburgh as you have to go up hill a lot more, but once you get to Union Canal it’s an easy 7/8 mile cycle into Edinburgh city centre.

Me and my did it at the start of August and did it in about 4 and a half hours.
