| Comment | I agree that they're both governmental failures but regarding race I was referring to immigration and asylum seekers. That girl was failed and I'm equally angry about that, how she was let down to such an extent is beyond me, but I would regard it as a separate government issue.
Regarding immigration, people who arrive from New Zealand, Denmark and Canada are greeted *very* differently to those from Uganda, Syria and Pakistan which suggests a race issue.
For things like child protection I do agree with you that it's not as straightforward as race, it's also incredibly classist and all about saving money. Services would have considered it 'cheaper' and easier to not intervene and save that girl - equally disgusting. Neither issue has an excuse, both need resolved and show a gaping problem in our welfare and society. |
