A lot of my friends are in a very similar situation. It's dire.

My two friends recently moved into a new build together since they started their house hunt in July 2019. They weren't opposed to the idea of a new build, it just wasn't their first option. House after house after house went to a closing date and went for crazy amounts over the home valuation.

A house they loved in Cambuslang was up for sale at offers over £179k and sold for £220k - then coronavirus started which made it even harder. They bought their new build at a fixed price and said they don't think they would've got what they wanted (or on the property ladder at all) without it.
