I live in Shawlands, don't have a car and find it pretty easy to get about the city by public transport. I sometimes get the impression that the people who moan about buses the most are the ones who never get on them. Yes you have to be a bit more organised but it's not generally that hard to live without a car in the city. I get that not every area is as well served for public transport but we have a pretty decent and affordable local rail service which covers most of the city, plus the subway and buses. Perhaps more integrated ticketing or even free public transport would get people out of their cars.

When I do need to drive somewhere I use one of the CoWheels car club cars which are really convenient. Would totally recommend checking them out if anyone is considering an alternative to car ownership
