Comment | If you want to support true independent bookshops because Amazon has hammered brick and mortar stores, don't buy from the Oxfam book shops. People seem to forget that there were a few independent bookshops on Byres Road before they opened.
How can you compete with a shop that gets discounted rent, discounted rates, virtually all their staff work for nothing, and they don't pay a single penny for stock? I'm not shitting on Oxfam (you can Google their scandals yourself), but if you don't want to give money to Company A that's destroying indy bookshops, don't give money to Company B that's doing the same just because it's a charity. |
