There are a few different styles of counselling so have a little look online and see what seems to fit.
The “schools” are
- Psychodynamic
- Behavioural
- Humanist
- Cognitive Behavioural
Though this may seem daunting it’s really not, all of them are valid ways to look at you; they just approach that from different directions. What works best for you may not work for someone else. And it’s rare that you will find you get *nothing* from a counselling relationship because they will all introduce you to parts of you that you’ve not paid mind to in a while or sometimes ever.
Personally I find going to a person-centred counsellor the best start, often they can draw on techniques from CBT etc as they need. |
