| Comment | You can put all the help and support you want in place, but if they don’t accept that help then there’s little that can be done for them. I see from another comment that you work with addicts. So you must know that many (not all but probably a majority) of them don’t take responsibility for improving their own situations. They have lived a dependant existence all their lives, with society giving them money, food, accommodation, allowing them not to work, and essentially facilitating their lifestyle. Until they can change that mindset, and take a lot of responsibility for improving their own situation, all the handouts and support in the world aren’t going to make a difference. You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink. Now, of course they have had terrible experiences along the way which may have originally been outwith their control, but if they don’t now, as adults, attempt to take some control then you or I aren’t going to be able to cure them. |
