| Comment | Quite a nostalgia trip here. I remember going down The Barras with my family as a child, then later with my pals as a teenager.
Absolutely teeming with patter merchants. You could get anything: football tops (3 for a tenner!), furniture, antiques, pirate copy dvds, tobacco, pet treats, socks, army gear, cds and much more. Danny's donuts were to die for: 6 for a pound and fresh out the fryer. I remember a kid approaching my dad asking if he was the real radio fugitive as apparently it was being hinted that he was at the Barras. My dad said aye and the kid went wild!
Changed days now. Hardly a soul or stall open. I suppose that's inevitable with the rise of online shopping and the decimation of the high street. But I'll always remember the old Barras. What a place. |
