The only problem with herd immunity is that people who don't vaccinate their kids for whatever reason are more likely mix with each other, so their level of risk is actually higher. We've recently seen big outbreaks of measles in Europe, and a big increase in cases of mumps among the cohort of young adults among whom MMR uptake was low due to the Wakefield scandal.
