| Comment | Can the whole country survive this? At this point the only businesses that can thrive are supermarkets and healthcare. Maybe hairdressers. Music venues, gone. Non food retail, gone. Bars and clubs, kaputt. Travel, ha ha ha! Bookshops - can’t touch books. Maybe only software developers working from home can keep going? Don’t get me wrong - I’m not a Covid denier and I’ve been wearing a face mask since March (when everybody laughed at me for doing so). But I can’t see how cities can bounce back from this any time soon. Eventually they will - civilisation has survived plagues, fires, wars. But it might take a very long time. |
