That's nonsense. 0.16% of the entire population of New York State died [32.8k deaths in population of 19.5 million, numbers from Google] , which certainly puts that as a lower bound (and then only if you assume every single person was infected which surely didn't happen). Obviously it varies a lot by age so depends a lot on demographics, but I think NY state (high income western country) is not too dissimilar to UK. Assuming UK reaches same level as US (population fatality rate) we can expect another 80,000 deaths this winter. Cases going up in NY cast doubt on whether heard immunity acheived.
