Don't buy a new battery without making sure whatever charges it is fully working. It also doesn't make sense to buy a new battery at the end of the season if you are not going to use the camper regularly during the winter because it will likely not be consistently charged.
It's a skoosh to fit a solar panel. I have fitted four camper solar systems now. I buy from here. https://midsummerenergy.co.uk/
Buy an MPPT power controller, dearer than a PWM but PWN is a false economy. I have a 300W solar on my current van and I can happily go off grid in the Summer indefinitely and I need to run a CPAP all night, every night. We don't have a TV in the van though and my current van has a secondary 50W system just for charging mobile devices etc.
Rust is a killer, and a money pit. Garages are prone to rip people off if they get a sense that they can and especially if whatever they are fixing you cannot easily see. I trust these guys totally. http://www.eldersgarage.co.uk/ They could have ripped me off with things which Toyota were going to charge me £1500+ for. They knew this and charged me £47.50.
I have done a fair bit of this, if you have questions feel free to reach out to me privately. Unfortunately I am not looking for extra work.
