Yeah, tbh I thought the amount on top would come down with the current situation.

Got my first place a couple of years ago and it was hard going, got completely outbid on a number of occasions, people who are moving home tend to have more equity and can use some of their old homes value to outgun new buyers, sometimes you're being out bid by prospective landlords.

You'll get there eventually, we had to settle for a place that needed a small amount of modernising and was a bit further out, but managed to get it for about 4% over.
Some of the ones further in were 20% over which was madness
