| Comment | For shipbuilding at least, the needs of the industry outgrew the physical space available. The Glasgow shipyards, even the deeper water ones in Port Glasgow, are not big enough to build the really large modern ships that generate a lot of income, plus the infrastructure towards the end of the shipbuilding period. For successful heavy industry, you need integrated industry and infrastructure of the kind that we just don't build in Scotland. |
