My building got mice last year while I was away. Came back, no one reported any more activity and I thought it was fine. A month or so later my husband went to the fesh and I'd left some Thornton's brownies on the counter. Next day I spotted poo and a munched brownie. Got humane traps and found no trapped mice but still munched food. Poo everywhere. Felt thoroughly revolted and unsafe.

Turns out if you live in Glasgow City Council catchment area they will send exterminators for free! And lay poison behind your kickboard. They said traps never work and you're just encouraging them to come back because they know food will be there. The poison is eaten and they die in their nests.

I really don't like the notion of killing wee creatures just trying to live their life but it was a choice between my toddler and mice and my toddler won.

Keep all food in cupboards in the meantime, sealed containers or breadbin. Use Dettol spray and wipes to disinfect. And hot, hot, hot soapy water on any crockery or cookware they could have touched.
