Helmet, lights, reflective clothing and a decent bike lock is a must. You will likely be cycling in wet weather so mud guards are a purchase as well.
Get good lights as well. Not cheap ones that people can barely see. Higher lumens the better. I did the scheme a few year ago and also got a bag with rain cover as well.
