Comment | Hi, sorry this isn't quite accurate. I work in homelessness - not in statutory services, but third sector. Initially during the first lockdown, housing associations weren't offering permanent accommodation, so there was a bottleneck because nobody was moving through from temporary furnished flats (TFFs) to permanent, but GHA made additional tenancies available as TFFs to try and help. There was still a shortage, so hostels were used more often and I think there will be an increase in folk who aren't presenting as homeless in the first place - plus there's less access to addiction and other services during covid (which has been an increasing issue since "austerity" was brought in ten years ago).
I don't mean to sound pedantic, but it's not that the council stopped providing TFFs - it's more that housing associations weren't doing viewings and sign ups to keep things moving. |
