Shawlands is a nice area, I personally wouldn't live there but I can see the appeal. Most of the old tenement flats are big and nice inside, but a bit on the more expensive side with shite soundproofing.

There's lots of shops, cafes, restaurants and bars, OK transport links (two train stations that will get you into the city centre within 10 mins and a bus from kilmarnock road is about 20 mins to union street give or take).

Walton Street is fine, as are the surrounding areas (Newlands, Pollokshaws, Mt Florida) but be careful as some letting agents try and advertise flats in Govanhill as Shawlands which you obviously want to avoid.
